Powering up into the sunshine for Congress 2024

Congress roars into action on Wednesday 27 November in Brisbane with Formula 1 strategist Bernie Collins and F1 team manager Mark Gallagher. Speaking at the first plenary session focused on powering up performance, Collins is primed for this session with a career as a strategy engineer starting with the McLaren Formula 1 racing team to United Autosports GT and Aston Martin F1. Now part of the Sky Sports F1 broadcasting team, her strategy expertise adds significant depth to the channel’s coverage.

Gallagher’s executive management career in Formula 1 included more than a decade on the management board of the successful Jordan Grand Prix team, running the world- famous Cosworth engine business and helping establish the commercial arm of Red Bull Racing. He’s the author of four books on racing and the winning formula.

This first session sets the Congress theme which permeates the rest of the event as we move the focus past the regulatory environment to bettering our businesses.

All together now

There’s an element of energising, excitement and fun. The speakers are a little bit different, the format has changed to include more plenaries and it’s starting earlier in the day.

Congress comprises a total of five plenaries around powering up – the next is connection, then advice, politics and to bring it all together – Powered Up – the Big Bold Mindset.

For the first time, Congress is bringing together the Inspire and GenNext communities in one big community breakfast focusing on Powering up Potential and featuring three-time Australian Olympic javelin thrower Kelsey-Lee Barber.

But that’s not all we’ll see from Inspire or GenNext – both have dedicated sessions at Congress.

GenNext’s session “How to have a Successful PY and Be An Asset to Your Firm” is focusing on the professional year from the candidate and supervisor perspective. The session’s focus is on combining the commercial and cultural drivers of a business to support business change with the right people and culture in place.

Winning workshops

Inspire is hosting a two-hour workshop, “How to Win the Game Show of Advice”, delving into some of the more complex issues clients might bring to advisers to explore how to have those conversations with clients – using a technical lens and a legal lens. It’s not just focused on women but instead aims to help all advisers by learning from their female counterparts when clients are dealing with issues such as IVF, divorce, and elder care.

There’s a technology mic-drop session, involving practitioners, tech consultants and fin tech. We are harnessing what we know about technology and learning from others about better ways of engaging with clients and making advice more accessible.

Telling tales

Master communicators and storytellers Troy and Zara Love will be delivering the second plenary session focused on powering up your connections. This couple will be providing actual examples of how to improve your communication skills with clients.

Journalist Simon Hoyle is hosting a panel of seven professionals who have come together to work on practical ways practitioners can power up the delivery of advice while waiting for DBFO Tranche 2 to be released. The session will deliver practical takeaways on how to speed up the process, how to use tech for efficiency, and where to find quick wins for your business. It’s about realigning the mindset to focus on what you can control.

Finally, to close the conference, Caspar Craven will be talking about powering up the bold mindset – using the example of sailing around the world twice.

Of course, there are networking events – the Netwealth Welcome Reception at the end of day 1 and the FAAA Awards Gala Dinner at the end of day 2. The dress code for the Gala Dinner is listed as business cocktail but you’re also welcome to go all out and dress to impress.

All Congress sessions held simultaneously will be recorded so Congress delegates will be able to effectively attend all sessions to earn the maximum CPD points.

We look forward to seeing you all in Brisbane – book now if you haven’t already. You still have time.
