Gen Next national chair Daniel Thompson says his priority is to bring the community together with more support to help community members become better advisers.
The demographic of Gen Next is new entrants, students and emerging professionals with less than six years in the advice profession.
One of the skills the community is hoping to teach is how to confidently communicate with both verbal and non-verbal language. Daniel believes to be a great adviser it is important to have the soft skills of being able to effectively communicate with clients.
For Congress this year the group is focusing on the professional year. There is a mix of speakers – a provisional adviser currently undergoing the professional year, a practice principal and a mentor.
“We want to talk about younger people going through the professional year, what makes it successful,” Daniel says.
Daniel has been an adviser for 15 years. His business has a young clientele aged between 30-40 and because of that the business uses a lot of technology such as Whatsapp groups for members and clients, FaceBook and links with Threads. The business runs a membership model for clients where they get advice and are set up. “We found that we have a lot of IT professionals prior to Covid but the clientele has since become broader.”
In 2025, Daniel is looking forward to building on the recent momentum within the Gen Next community, building on the great engagement at recent local events in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
