Footballers and an adventurer inspire in Melbourne

Our Melbourne Metro Community has been busy this quarter with the AFL Grand Final Lunch and the Inspire Community Lunch.

AFL Grand Final Lunch

The annual AFL Grand Final lunch was held in September and celebrated two of its members by presenting the FAAA Fellow Award to Julian Place CFP® and FAAA Distinguished Service Award to Samantha Robinson.

Julian, a deserving recipient, has served as an FPA/FAAA Board Member and Melbourne Metro Committee Member for over 23 years. His extensive involvement includes Future2 Board member, AFL Grand Final Lunch chair and MC, Financial Planning Education Council (FPEC) member, and committee positions on Professional Standards & Conduct, RCC/CCC, Governance & Remuneration, and Congress.  He co-led the development of the CPD Masterclass Program and has contributed as a guest lecturer, author, mentor, and award judge. He also received the FPA Distinguished Service Award in 2009.

Sam Robinson, Financial Adviser for Go-Getters, received the FAAA Distinguished Service Award for her leadership and long-standing contributions to the advice profession. She served nearly seven years on the AFA Board and numerous committees, including the Project Ocean Steering Committee during the merger. This award recognises her exceptional service to both the FAAA and AFA.

The event attracted a record crowd who heard from past and present AFL and AFLW stars and raised a record $32,000 for Future2.

FAAA Inspire Community Lunch

The 2024 Inspire Community lunch attracted its biggest crowd with 250 attendees. Special guest speaker Samantha Gash has over 15 years of experience as an adventurer, entrepreneur, and former corporate lawyer and over lunch shared stories of resilience, purpose, and pushing limits.
